Abstract We consider nonlinear reaction systems satisfying mass-action kinetics with slow and fast reactions. It is known that the fast-reaction-rate limit can be described by an ODE Lagrange multipliers a set of constraints ask reactions to in equilibrium. Our aim study limiting gradient structure which available if system satisfies detailed-balance condition. The on concentration vectors given terms relative Boltzmann entropy cosh-type dissipation potential. show or effective rigorously derived via EDP-convergence, i.e. convergence sense energy-dissipation principle for flows. In general, will no longer type satisfy kinetics.

The Entropy Method for Reaction-diffusion Systems without Detailed Balance: First Order Chemical Reaction Networks
In this paper, the applicability of the entropy method for the trend towards equilibrium for reaction-diffusion systems arising from first order chemical reaction networks is studied. In particular, we present a suitable entropy structure for weakly reversible reaction networks without detail balance condition. We show by deriving an entropy-entropy dissipation estimate that for any weakly reve...
متن کاملExtended detailed balance for systems with irreversible reactions
The principle of detailed balance states that in equilibrium each elementary process is equilibrated by its reverse process. For many real physico-chemical complex systems (e.g. homogeneous combustion, heterogeneous catalytic oxidation, most enzyme reactions, etc.), detailed mechanisms include both reversible and irreversible reactions. In this case, the principle of detailed balance cannot be ...
متن کاملConvergence to equilibrium for the discrete coagulation-fragmentation equations with detailed balance
Under the condition of detailed balance and some additional restrictions on the size of the coefficients, we identify the equilibrium distribution to which solutions of the discrete coagulation-fragmentation system of equations converge for large times, thus showing that there is a critical mass which marks a change in the behavior of the solutions. This was previously known only for particular...
متن کاملOn imposing detailed balance in complex reaction mechanisms.
In a recent article, Colquhoun et al. (Colquhoun, D., K. A. Dowsland, M. Beato, and A. J. Plested. 2004. Biophys. J. 86:3510–3518) present a method to impose detailed balance on a complex reaction mechanism, which relies on identifying reaction cycles. We propose a method to impose detailed balance without explicitly considering reaction cycles. In our method, the detailed balance constraint is...
متن کاملPrecision and Sensitivity in Detailed-Balance Reaction Networks
We study two specific measures of quality of chemical reaction networks, Precision and Sensitivity. The two measures arise in the study of sensory adaptation, in which the reaction network is viewed as an input-output system. Given a step change in input, Sensitivity is a measure of the magnitude of the response, while Precision is a measure of the degree to which the system returns to its orig...
